Paul Christensen has been teaching music for 15 years and performing music for over 40 years. After studying Percussion Performance at the Lawrence Conservatory of Music in Appleton, WI, Paul moved to Los Angeles in 1999 to form experimental rock group QUI (kwee). Since then, QUI has recorded several studio albums and toured extensively both nationally and internationally working with artists such as David Yow, Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover, Trevor Dunn and Mike Watt. In 2011 Paul started teaching at the School of Rock West L.A. directing bands and teaching private lessons. Since then he has established his own studio of private students that he sees primarily in their homes all over greater Los Angeles. Eventually this led to Paul meeting and enrolling a few students on the Autism spectrum and a deeper passion for working with the Neurodivergent was born. In 2023 he joined the staff at Spectrum Laboratory to help coach the Spec Bands and give private lessons in a variety of instruments. Spectrum Laboratory has also helped him find a new voice in Music Therapy by connecting him to people in need of a safe/brave space to explore themselves musically, regulate emotions and break down barriers. Paul is continually inspired by the community at Spec Labs and aspires to do the same for his students.
