Songwriting & Music Production
Now extended to 2 hours, this hands-on workshop invites you to write and record original songs in a professional music studio, perform live at a local venue, and access tools for distributing your music to online stores and streaming platforms. Whether you're a beginner or seasoned musician, each participant will receive personalized support and resources tailored to their current experience level.
Spec Band &
Make Your Band!
For students eager to learn and perform great cover songs at Spec Lab events, we offer Spec Band—a high-energy class that builds skills in group performance, stage presence, and playing crowd-pleasing hits. This season, Spec Band will take the stage at our annual Halloween extravaganza, Spec-O-Ween!
For those ready to develop their own musical voice, Make Your Band is the perfect next step. In this course, you'll learn to arrange and lead a band with your original song, collaborating with fellow songwriters to bring each other’s creative visions to life. The program culminates in a live concert showcasing a full night of original music—written, arranged, and performed by you and your new band.

Raise Your Voice!
A choir for every singer
Come sing your heart out in a choir built for every voice. Beginners, casual singers, and seasoned pros all come together to learn and grow. We’ll explore an exciting mix of songs from musicals and pop/rock favorites. You’ll strengthen your ear, expand your vocal range, and gain confidence performing. Every rehearsal is a joyful experience—no pressure, just music! All voice types welcome.
Studio Engineering
In this 7-week class, you'll learn how to set up and operate microphones, recording gear, and a digital audio workstation in a professional studio environment. You'll get hands-on experience, working on real projects and with artists produced at Spectrum Laboratory. By the end of the course, you’ll gain practical skills in audio recording, session flow, and studio etiquette. Students who complete the class may be invited to engineer on future Spec Labs productions, classes, and live events.

Video Vibes
This course is designed for students interested in promoting their music with the visual medium. We will be combining our curriculum for digital marketing with video creation! Artists in Video Vibes will develop a video pieces to coincide with their music releases and explore strategies for marketing their music. Students in video vibes should be ready to develop their visual presence on platforms like Youtube, Instagram and Tik Tok, producing several video pieces around their music and artistry.

Music Scoring
Get hands on composing for projects at Spec Labs! This may include films, staged productions or animated videos. You'll receive training to work with a digital audio workstation, creating music in many styles and genres. Students are encouraged to have access to music software at home and a midi keyboard. Keyboard and software may be provided for an additional fee if needed. This class is open to all levels!
